Arthostel
‘Arthostel’ is a project worth DKK 6,500,000, implemented between 1 July 2012 and 30 October 2014 with a grant from The VELUX Foundations.
The project is run by the Social Innovation Foundation. We started working on it in 2009. The city of Gdańsk gave us the old police station at 18 Kartuska Street in Gdańsk to set up a social enterprise in the hotel industry. The building required thorough renovation. The idea of creating a social enterprise attracted the interest of the Danish foundation The VELUX Foundations, which awarded us a grant for the investment and equipment of the facility, which will be an accommodation facility called 13 Rooms.
13 pokoi will be the first social enterprise in the hotel industry in Gdańsk. It will be a professional company combining market orientation with social responsibility. It will be a place for internships, apprenticeships and first jobs for young people from care and educational institutions. Through their work in the company, they will gain new qualifications, professional skills and experience that are highly valued by employers in the open labour market.
The profit from the sale of the facility will be reinvested in the self-financing of the hotel's operations and in supporting the vocational education of pupils from care and educational institutions.
The launch is planned for October 2014.
