First job

‘First Job’ – a project worth PLN 1,996,726.40, implemented between 1 October 2011 and 30 September 2014 under Sub-measure 7.2.1 of the Human Capital Operational Programme.

Drawing on the experience and results of the ‘Support at the Start’ project, during which we implemented a pilot programme to help young people from one of our Children's Homes become independent in a training flat, we have developed a programme to help young people from our Homes become independent, based on the ‘First Job’ project.

All our residents over the age of 15 participate in life skills training, during which they learn how to run a household (cooking, managing a household budget, keeping clean, etc.). Preparation for independence is primarily about ensuring a good education. Participants benefit from tutoring, particularly in foreign languages and science subjects, as well as vocational courses.

As part of the project, all participants took part in a basic cooking course, during which they acquired practical skills in food selection, food preparation, kitchen cleaning, etc. From this group, eight people who are interested in working in the catering industry are participating in an advanced cooking course. The courses are conducted at the Pomeranian Cooking Academy run by the Association of Polish Chefs and Confectioners of the Pomeranian Region. Participants in this project also have the opportunity to complete a professional internship in catering establishments in the Tri-City area. With this support, the residents of our Homes will be better prepared for independence as they enter adulthood.

The project is co-financed by the European Union under the European Social Fund.
