Seniors without Fake News – joint activities in Orunia in the fight against misinformation

We have completed the project “Seniors Without Fake,” in which senior women and men from Orunia learned together how to navigate the internet safely and recognize false information. The project was developed in collaboration with local senior leaders, and the workshops took place at the Gościnna Przystań Community House as well as in various senior clubs in Orunia: Klub Seniorek, Kącik Prasowy, Klub Seniora Gościnna Przystań, Intercultural Senior Club, Klub Seniora Orania, and Klub Seniora Muza .

During the project, 70 people — including 24 from Ukraine — jointly developed their skills in identifying disinformation. All workshops were led by local community leaders, which encouraged more active collaboration among participants. Mrs. Krystyna, one of the seniors, emphasized: “With each meeting, I could feel myself making progress, and now I feel more confident talking about the internet with my grandchildren.”

Alongside the senior-focused activities, at GFIS we also strengthened the digital security of our organization and improved our team’s digital competencies. Trainings, workshops, webinars, and the development of important procedures gave us new potential.

Thanks to the support of TechSoup and the engagement of the entire community, the project brought lasting results. We encourage you to explore the educational materials , which are available in both Polish and Ukrainian.

The activities under the Digital Activism Accelerator project are carried out by TechSoup Europe with support from Google and in cooperation with local partners from Central and Eastern Europe. The project is part of the Digital Activism program, which since 2018 has supported civil society in developing digital skills in Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America, and West and South Africa.
