Wataha
The Wataha Youth Club is a place where we support young people and young adults aged 12-25 from the Orunia-Św. Wojciech-Lipce district. Through regular contact with local young people, we get to know and monitor their current situation. On this basis, we identify their needs and try to meet them. We operate in the ‘Gościnna Przystań’ Neighbourhood House, Przystanek Ubocze (a container at 24 Ubocze Street) and wherever young people hang out (streetworking).
As part of Wataha's activities, we organise tutoring, group meetings, individual meetings and thematic classes. Together, we visit places of culture, sport and recreation, instilling in young people a curiosity about the world and a desire to spend their free time actively.
We support young people in difficult life situations. We conduct preventive classes, provide crisis assistance and accompany young people in difficult situations. We create a support network by systematically cooperating with parents, the Municipal Social Welfare Centre, schools and other institutions focused on supporting young people and their families.
We also make sure that young people get involved in activities for the local community. For many years, we have been co-organising the Neighbourhood Festival, during which the Youth Club members raise funds for their annual canoeing trip. This teaches young people about social economy as they supply the festival with their own lemonade and snacks, among other things. We also organise other events that bring the local community in Gdańsk's Orunia district together, including open film screenings, art and cooking workshops.
Every year, we go on a week-long kayaking trip together. The kayaking trip is our tradition, an amazing adventure, an opportunity to meet new people, get away from everyday life and experience something unique. Every day is different, we sleep in tents in a new place, cook our own meals on a campfire, swim in the river, learn to work together and make friends.
When working individually with young adults, we use a time-bound form of comprehensive, solution-focused support. We build on the resources and strengths of each participant and the goals they set for themselves.
Together, we do so much more! Visit us and see for yourself! We call ourselves Wataha because community and cooperation are very important to us!
